A modern and earthy country house was given a full-scale renovation by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design, nestled on a sprawling estate just one hour outside of Portland, Oregon. This beautiful 250-acre property gently cascades down to a swimming pool and then beyond to a river and forest. The river offers some of the best salmon fishing in the state. This project entailed a complete overhaul of the floor plan layout to provide family-friendly living spaces.

The designer converted a five-car garage into an inviting family room and library that opens out to the swimming pool. Also added to the lower level, is a beautiful garden kitchen. On the upper level, all the rooms were significantly renovated. The living room was opened to an adjacent study, creating a bright and airy great room boasting a dual-sided fireplace with an inviting seating nook.

The designer’s aesthetic goal for this project was to bring together a warm, casual, family-friendly palette of materials. This includes a striking mix of linen, leather, natural wood and stone, cozy rugs, and vintage textiles. The dark beams and windows create a strong graphic element which is balanced and echoed by these more delicate textile patterns.

The designer created spacious living spaces illuminated with natural light, thanks to windows capturing views of the spectacular countryside. Stylish furnishings and beautiful use of materials create an overall warm and sophisticated aesthetic that is very habitable.
