This Adirondack-style lake house was reimagined as a family retreat by Boehm Graham Interior Design, nestled along Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, New Hampshire. Combining the rugged beauty of lodge-inspired materials with moments of whimsy and warmth, this home offers the ultimate in lakeside serenity.

Exposed log beams, hand-carved details, and nature-themed murals speak to a deep love of the outdoors, while plush upholstery, curated collections, and storybook nooks add comfort and charm. Every room is designed to embrace the lake views and invite connection—from the cozy family room to the vibrant play spaces.

The designer married the scale of this expansive lakeside lodge with the warmth of layered materials, thoughtful detail, and a sense of lived-in luxury that honors both the setting and the people who call it home.

Rustic house with cedar porch overhanging a natural rock waterfall and pond

Above: The exterior of the house was painted in the owner’s favorite color, blue. It features a custom twig detail and live-edge trim. A waterfall leads down to the lake.

Originally constructed in 1999, there were a lot of outdated design details in this home, including side-by-side toilets in the owner’s bathroom. The biggest challenge was to transform 9,200 square feet of living space into a getaway that would feel cozy yet modern.

Spaces needed to celebrate the owner’s personal style, highlight their favorite color (blue), and their passion for entertaining. It also needed to honor the original Adirondack-style woodland aesthetic of the house, which was originally built by Cargill Construction. A unique design in this home is an indoor parade of polished tree trunks.

Lake House Great Room with Stone Fireplace

What We Love About This Home

This family retreat on Lake Winnipesaukee feels warm, inviting, and modern while staying true to its original Adirondack-inspired charm. We love how the designer honored the bones of the original structure while breathing fresh life into every room, from the stunning great room with its soaring stone fireplace and twig-detailed railing to the storybook children’s spaces complete with hand-painted murals and imaginative play nooks. The kitchen is a standout, with its Brazilian quartzite backsplash, custom canoe chandelier, and open layout that’s idyllic for gathering around the island. Throughout the home, every detail, from the hickory dining chairs to the live-edge desk in the loft office, feels purposeful and personal.

Above: In the kitchen, several non-structural timbers were removed to open up the layout and make way for a generous custom island at the heart of the space. The dramatic range hood was sourced from Oxbow Green Cabinetry Design Studio in Breckenridge, Colorado. A nickel gap ceiling introduces subtle texture overhead, while quartzite from Brazil, selected for its ring-like veining that echoes the cross-section of a tree, runs along the backsplash and countertops. The space is finished with a one-of-a-kind canoe chandelier and hickory stools custom upholstered in leather with a refined chevron fabric.
