A rustic-luxe vacation home has been carved into a rugged mountainside by local builder Yellowstone Traditions, with the architectural design completed by Pearson Design Group in Big Sky, Montana. This magnificent dwelling merges with its landscape capturing its dramatic features. The structure sits on terraces that have been carved into the steep rocky hillside. The exterior facade of this rustic retreat is clad in the same material that surrounds it, while rough-hewn timbers stacked on top of the foundation conveys a distinct character. The home is oriented so that expansive windows capture the captivating views surrounding it, which includes the Spanish Peaks. The design was inspired by cabins in Glacier National Park, so the aesthetic needed to be timeless, as if it has always resided on the property. Comprised of 3,700 square feet, the interiors are luxurious yet rustic, with custom cabinetry throughout that infuses the spaces with warmth. Natural material elements were also applied to the interiors, yet with a more finished look. Adding textural interest to the interiors, everything has been patinated and polished with care, making it smooth to the touch, rustic yet luxurious.
What We Love: The timeless rustic charm featured on the exterior and interior of this mountain pad and its spectacular surroundings is simply breathtaking. If you love mountain homes as much as we do, this one is pretty drool worthy.
We have featured other amazing home tours from the talented design team of Pearson Design Group here on 1 Kindesign. We love their work and hope you find some of their other homes just as inspiring as we do:

The lower level of the home was designed for lounging and entertaining family and friends. It is the perfect space to hang out after a day of skiing and enjoy the perks of a fully stocked wine cellar, spacious dining table and comfortable seating. Material elements includes reclaimed hardwood flooring, wood beams and stripped logs intermingled with more refined wood panelling and hand carved custom cabinetry, all of which have been given a timeworn patina.
A cozy reading nook is the perfect space to retreat in warmth and enjoy a good read… not to mention the home’s beautiful surroundings!
Love the log that has been anchored to the floor supporting the staircase. Its actually the base of a tree, which was added to the space with the idea of looking like the house was built up around this tree.
This sumptuous bedroom features a built-in window seat that is an extension of the fireplace hearth, warm and inviting. In keeping with the rustic aesthetic, rough-hewn wood, reclaimed wood flooring and rock makes this master retreat cozy and luxe.
Stone steps leading up to a copper soaking tub looks like heaven! This is the perfect retreat after a long day of skiing on the slopes and even better with windows that looks out into the forested hillside.
