Interior MA2 is a highly functional yet compact studio space comprised of only 40 square meters just recently completed by INT2 Architecture, located in Moscow, Russia.  This intriguing small apartment was designed with a limited budget but also with a request to have the space constructed as quickly as possible. The owner wanted to create an interior that could be fully livable with all the necessary amenities that one would need to go about their daily routine. In such a small space, this can be hard to achieve, especially while still maintaining a good flow. This space was successfully designed to maximize space while still maintaining a fresh, clean look. The finishes were minimal and budget-minded, so simple changes were made to update the space. The brick walls were painted, the duct work was left exposed, the ceiling is exposed concrete and wood board flooring was given a fresh coat of paint. The designers used furniture items that would be multi-purposed and less expensive. Industrial metal lockers were used in the hallway instead of a wardrobe to store jackets, shoes and other items. Manufactured stainless steel tables, used typically in the kitchens of restaurants and bars, are featured in the kitchen. Welded shelving is used for extra storage and to display decorative items. The washer and dryer are located adjacent to the fridge in the kitchen in a well-organized wall unit. Flea market finds, vintage items and online auctions were used to help with some of the furnishings, such as the dining chairs, podstole sink and barn board.

The bank of windows running across the wall emits lots of natural light into the otherwise dark space. The light colored fabric on the bed and lighter flooring provides a stark contrast to the darker finishes throughout the space.

Barn board is used on the large floor to ceiling cabinet in the kitchen, which also acts as divider wall to separate the kitchen from the living room.

A bookshelf helps to delineate the living space from the bedroom area, having a small cubby hole on the bedroom side for storing small items. An area rug in the living space adds pattern and texture to the space, adding warmth to the wood planked flooring.
