An old country farmhouse in New York State gets a modern makeover

This gorgeous country farmhouse was renovated by Crisp Architects, located in Millbrook, a small country village in Dutchess County, New York. Over a decade ago, the architects had been commissioned to update the kitchen and family room of this old farmhouse for a young family. After the sale of the property, the new owners settled in for a few years and then decided it was time for a refresh. They contacted the architects who were familiar with the project to pick up where they had left off with the previous owners.

The scope of this renovation entailed an addition to this beautiful farmhouse, with a new living space, guest quarters, and porches. There is a pleasant continuity between the old farmhouse, the earlier renovations, and the latest additions. It began with a respect for the carpenter architects who built this home in the 1800s and extends to the thoughtful owners who cared about the details to create a timeless home that will be enjoyed for another generation.
