A waterfront home in Rye, New York gets a masculine yet inviting refresh

modern-entry

This beautiful modern waterfront home remodel was carried out by Utah-based interiors firm Studio McGee, located in Rye, New York. The exterior featured a completely different color palette before the transformation, while all of the windows got an upgrade. New rooflines were added and the entire exterior facade was painted white, with black windows.

The home was traditional prior to the renovation, however, the new owners have very modern tastes, therefore completely transforming this home. The owners love black, white, and wood tones, so the color palette was carried throughout the entire home to unify the living spaces. Small details were added into each room to make them feel different. Most of the furnishings and decor can be found in the designer’s shop, McGee & Co.

In the entryway of this modern waterfront home, the banister was removed and replaced with glass and wood. A stair runner was added for contrast.

The kitchen is open on both sides and shares a wall with a more formal living room. A wet bar provides a clean separation between the two spaces, stained in a dramatic black hue. An industrial faucet provides a unique touch and sets the tone for the living space.

What We Love: This modern waterfront home beautifully mixes and layers different styles of furnishings, elevating living spaces. Despite these stylish living spaces offering a masculine feel, the designer did a fabulous job of softening the aesthetic with plush textures and rounded furnishings. We are especially inspired by the great room with its indoor-outdoor connection. The large openings become the artwork of the interior, showing a perpetual motion to the rhythm of the seasons.

There is a trio of living spaces in this large area, incorporating smaller furniture groupings to define each space. Curves are used to soften the more masculine styling and make it feel more welcoming.

In the dining area, large windows provide dreamy waterfront views. This space was kept more minimal, devoid of an area rug since the other two living spaces in the great room already have rugs. Furnishings are kept a low profile so as not to block the view. Textures were added for interest to make up for the intentional lack of color.

The stunning home office is accessed through steel doors, with large windows this space is flooded with natural light. The chairs were selected with curved edges to soften the harder edges of the windows. Additional seating was selected on the other side of the desk to allow the owner to have clients visit at home.

In the boy’s bedroom, a tongue and groove ceiling with beams in a custom stain provides an eye-catching detail in the space. Curved edges are brought into this space, in the headboard, sconces, and tables. Despite the soft edges, the space feels very fresh and modern. Basketball art above the bed adds a personal touch.

In the master bathroom, the designer started the remodel with exquisite marble mosaic floor tiles, setting the tone for the entire space. Mixing white and warm gray together, the color is carried over onto the vanity. A thick white stone countertop complements the vanity and makes a statement piece. Large windows provide sweeping water views.
