Inviting modern farmhouse provides family retreat on Martha’s Vineyard

modern-farmhouse-exterior

Sullivan + Associates Architects has designed this inviting modern farmhouse in West Tisbury, a town located on Martha’s Vineyard in Dukes County, Massachusetts. This cedar shingle four-bedroom home is used as a relaxing summer getaway home for a family to enjoy. The double volume tower is clad in Tricoya, a high performance, wood based panel product that has been painted.

The tower element was added to the exterior facade to incorporate the chimney — a twist to the traditional farmhouse design that features a large stone chimney. This design twist makes the more traditional exterior appear more modern.

The homeowners vision was light and airy living spaces with a casual and inviting feel, punctuated with standout moments. To achieve this look, the designers exercised restraint in the interior design. This included painting the walls with a warm white hue, Cloud White 967 | Benjamin Moore. Oak floors were given a whitewash-style finish accented by natural wood and nickel gap planks.
