Timber frame ranch retreat boasts timeless appeal in Big Sky Country

Pearson Design Group in collaboration with Lohss Construction has designed this timber frame ranch retreat located in the mountains of Bozeman, Montana. The dwelling is nestled along Limestone Creek, where the national forest meets rangeland. This property has historically been an agricultural area.

The architects described this retreat’s design as “being both a comfortable, modern place for recreation and a place that has stood the test of time and could have been here for 100 years or more. Our vision is to pursue the emotional, poetic moments that our clients really care about. It’s the wow factor, the visual effect, the great views that homeowners want.”

The windows appear to be etched into the timber-frame structure and inset into the stone. The residence incorporates reclaimed and new wood on the ceilings and floors, interior walls, and exterior cladding. Stone also appears inside and out, on walls, floors, and pathways. It has an intrinsically agrarian feel, created with regional and natural materials.

What We Love: This timber frame ranch retreat offers an extended family of three-generations a recreational home to enjoy for years to come. Designed to maximize views of the surrounding natural beauty, this home will offer a tranquil place to relax and unwind for its inhabitants. We are especially loving all of the integration of windows in this home, designed to capitalize on the light and views and blur indoor-outdoor boundaries.

Tell Us: What details do you find most appealing in the design of this home and why in the Comments below, we love reading your feedback!

Note: Have a look at a couple of our favorite home tours that we have featured here on One Kindesign from the portfolio of the architects of this project, Pearson Design Group: This mountain modern lakefront home in Montana is all about Zen and Modern-rustic retreat inspired by breathtaking Whitefish Lake surroundings.

Above: The windows feature narrow sightlines and are grouped in multiple units to form large expanses of glazing. The extruded aluminum exterior offers low-maintenance durability, while the wood interior exudes a warm and organic feel. “The qualities of these products make them well-suited for the Mountain Modern style that’s very popular right now,” states Lohss Construction.

A timeless aesthetic is achieved in this dwelling through the incorporation of VistaLuxe WD LINE windows and doors by Kolbe throughout — capturing the tranquil landscape and drenching the interiors with natural light.

The windows are the highlight of this home, extending 10 feet and higher and include lift and slide doors that encourage an indoor-outdoor lifestyle. This is visionary living in Big Sky country.
