Architectural studio Birdseye together with Wadsworth Design Build has designed Brick House, a private residence and guest house located in Southern Vermont, wrapped in custom Danish clay tiles. Composed of three gable structures clad in hand-molded, Danish clay tiles with Corten metal features, Brick House is inspired by the adjacent neighboring building, an 1816 Federal-style, red brick home. The home reflects the tonality, stateliness, and permanence of the historic structure.

The C-shaped plan of the combined house and guest house forms an exterior courtyard of outdoor programming, including outdoor eating and two covered seating areas within the Corten lath gable overhangs of the two buildings. The lath reveals the backside of the brick tile detail, giving a glimpse of the brick tile attachment.

What We Love About This Home

The seamless unity of materials, hand-molded Danish clay tiles, Corten steel, and warm oak, creates an exterior that feels both timeless and entirely contemporary. Inside, the custom sculptural staircase and double-sided brick fireplace anchor the home with a quiet, crafted confidence that carries through every room. What makes Brick House truly special is how effortlessly it belongs to its landscape, shifting in tone and texture with the Vermont light as though it has always been there.
