Spectacular alpine ranch house with rustic-modern details in Montana

alpine-ranch-rustic-exterior

Designed by Kma Architect, this beautiful alpine ranch house is perched at 8000 feet on an impressive 160-acre parcel located in the Yellowstone Club community of Big Sky, Montana. Boasting views of the Spanish Peaks from this four-bedroom home are spectacular, to say the least. The property’s design highlights both rustic and modern elements which lend it an overall timeless quality.

At High Alpine, a passion for horses is evident by the loafing barn, riding facility, pastures, and trails. This estate was updated with a new heli-barn and caretakers flat, a pond and stream system which encompass geothermal heating, and a complete landscape redesign that included an incredibly cool dining pavilion and exterior living space.

Project Team: Architect: Kma Architect | Builder: Highline Partners | Interior Design: Lisa Kanning Interior Design | Engineer: Johnson Structural Engineering | Landscape Architect: Design Workshop

Not your typical mountain lodge, this dwelling can feel intimate for hosting family get-togethers but can also welcome a large group of guests for entertaining. With the help of the homeowners, interior living spaces are the vision of Lisa Kanning Interior Design. Collaborating with Highline Partners, the project’s contractor, the furnishings and finishes directly influenced the built structure to produce stunning results.

Most of this home’s furnishings, light fixtures, and even architectural details were custom created by the interior designer. A lounge area was designed in place of a formal dining room, which was thought to be too stuffy for laid-back living. The room also features hollow concrete tables and a built-in banquette under expansive windows for cocktail hour.

What We Love: This exquisite alpine ranch house offers a warm and welcoming home for hosting family and friends in both casual and formal living environments. More intimate living spaces can be reconfigured when needed for larger gatherings, making this home quite unique. Breathtaking surroundings add to the overall appeal of this home, captured through large windows that invite the outdoors inside.

The home is filled with textures, defining spaces with rough-hewn timbers beside smooth plaster walls. The entryway features iron benches covered in leather, against walls wrapped in cowhide panels.

Clean-lined furnishings add a modern flair while leather and faux-fur adds hints of Western-style. A neutral color palette was used with reclaimed wood beams on the ceilings and walls refined with a wire wheel (a process that cleans old wood and brings out its color and character).

Wide-plank oak that arrived whitewashed was sanded and black washed to give it a soft, weathered look on the floors. A few accents of eye-catching bold color were splashed throughout the home. The result is a home that strikes the perfect balance between surprise and tranquility, rustic and modern, texture, and color.

Spectacular love all the details, I
Care for homes in the Club such as this the planning and details are not for the faint of heart, have a long stride and fast shoes. However, Kitchen looks a Chef’s dream, would love to walk through to see all the features up close and time to admire, look at the silverware drawer and table decor too. Bravo designers!!

The cow skin wall is a little too Ed Gein for my taste but I love the platform bed.
