Designed by Miller-Roodell Architects, this modern alpine retreat nestles cozily into a timbered ridge high in the Madison Range of Gallatin County, Montana. This year-round refuge provides a refined gathering place for the owner, her children, and their growing family. The 6,500-square-foot home is warm and inviting, maintaining a simple, clean elegance and a sense of rustic refinement.

Restrained spaces provide a quiet backdrop for an ample art collection, while extensive windows capture natural daylight and frame distant mountain peaks. Locally quarried stone walls comfortably anchor communal gathering areas, while a soaring verticality and abundant glazing keep the architecture feeling light and airy.

What We Love About This Home

The bold, raspberry-red kitchen cabinets against locally quarried stone walls are an unexpected and stunning combination that somehow feels completely at home in the Montana mountains. The art collection woven throughout every room gives the house a deeply personal quality, from the colorful glass chandelier in the great room to the paintings tucked into hallway corners. What stands out most is how the architecture manages to feel both grand and intimate, with every room opening onto the landscape while remaining cozy.

Tell Us: What is your favorite space in this modern alpine retreat? The dramatic kitchen, the soaring great room, or one of the serene bedrooms?
