Rustic meets modern in this beautiful Colorado mountain sanctuary

rustic-mountain-home-exterior

This stunning modern-rustic mountain sanctuary designed by Vertical Arts Architecture is perched on a hillside in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. While many custom homeowners fall in love with beautiful views, the owners of this property took it to another level. Prior to building, they regularly hiked to the hilltop, set up a bench, and enjoyed picnics to take in the vast expanse of the valley and nearby Emerald Mountain.

Knowing that capitalizing on the views was of utmost priority, Vertical Arts began the work with an in-depth driveway study to ensure the master-planned home could capitalize on the views they desired. The result is a stunning, serene home pushed to the edge of the knoll that enjoys unimpeded 360-degree views.

As you climb the 900-foot-long driveway and gain 80 feet of elevation you notice the home’s gentle arch shape that wraps the knoll. This became the inspiration for the sweeping rustic-style home that features floor-to-ceiling windows in all the main living spaces, marrying the rugged scenery with the home’s warm and welcoming interior.

Outdoors, the team created dual outdoor spaces on both sides of the home off both the kitchen and the dining room. The primary covered patio off the dining room houses outdoor dining space and a grill to take in the sweeping views. A smaller, sheltered patio is located right off the kitchen on the home leeward’s side to enjoy the weather—even on windy days.

Gorgeous stonework helps transition from the outdoors to the home’s interior such as the outdoor patio tile blending into the entry and kitchen. Inside, the windows in the main living space prominently feature a sweeping view of the valley while the fireplace anchors the room and bold trusswork draws the eye up. The interior design team integrated roller shades into window frames to provide the perks of curtains and blinds without having bulky hardware that blocks the view.

The wooden beams are traditionally rustic, but the silky palette of plaster walls gives a clean, warm, and cozy feeling. In the main living space, an integrated entertainment/media cabinet blends into the wall and sits at an angle for optimal viewing. Nail heads are featured on furniture pieces to again blend modern and rustic.

The kitchen intentionally omits upper cabinets to create a simple and elegant flow through the main gathering areas. Modern flat-paneled cabinetry made from reclaimed wood acts as an appliance wall for a streamlined and cohesive look.

The reclaimed oak bartop and breakfast bar offer casual dining spots with, yes, delightful views, and the formal dining room features soft colors juxtaposed against iron and bronze fixtures.

What We Love: This mountain sanctuary provides a wonderful living environment for its occupants’ thanks to warm and inviting interior spaces. Large windows frame superb views of the rugged mountainous landscape while supplying an abundance of natural light. To round out the home, the office space also offers unrivaled views with windows on three sides of the room, and guests enjoy privacy in the two spare bedrooms on the lower level of the home.

The private master suite is located across a small bridge and is among the home’s most unique features. Attached to the rest of the house with a lovely foyer that serves as a waypoint with its own television, library, and double-sided fireplace, the master offers peace and privacy.

rustic-bathroom

The master bathroom’s private patio is perched on the edge of the hill and includes a hot tub. Both the tiramisu travertine pattern on the bedroom walls and the milky cream cabinets in the bathroom create an airy feeling that’s not overly kitschy or rustic.
