This modest timber-frame cabin was designed by Hoedemaker Pfeiffer, nestled on the shores of Dabob Bay on Hood Canal, Washington. The original cabin on the property was built in 1979, anchored to the ground on one end while protruding over the descending slope at the other.
Inspired by the vernacular architecture of the Pacific Northwest, the structure is perched on timber posts that imitate the towering firs that surround it. Three decades after this home was built, this cozy shelter was in need of a facelift. The new owner, who is a renowned fly-angler, fell in love with the cabin and the surrounding property.

She found herself retreating here during the wintertime, desiring a place of refuge that had the same liveliness and spirit as the original cabin yet provide a harbor from the harsh winters. She commissioned the architects to design a master bedroom cabin on the property, along with a separate home office where she would be able to craft custom flies and meet with clients.
The architect sited a small outbuilding perched on top of a knoll behind the original cabin. The new bedroom cabin was to be grounded to the earth to complement but not compete with the original cabin. With love and respect for the original architecture and dramatic landscape, the new bedroom cabin acknowledges the style of the original cabin.
The new cabin is highly efficient and providing only what is needed: a sleeping room, a bathroom, an abundance of storage, a home office, and deeply covered porches.

We are loving the new cabin addition on the property, with a cozy bedroom and home office space surrounded by tranquil woodsy views.
