An idyllic waterfront retreat in Maryland is in perfect harmony with nature

modern-home-exterior

Martins Grehl Architects is responsible for the design of this striking modern family retreat located on a two-acre waterfront property in Easton, Maryland. The home was created for a couple of empty nesters from Florida as a vacation home and rendezvous with their three grown kids who reside in New York.

This 3,700 square foot dwelling is nestled on a point, offering 180-degree views of the Tred Avon River on the Chesapeake Bay’s majestic Eastern Shore. When building this home, the owners had a few specific requests — a fireplace, a large dining table to seat a dozen, hardwood floors for warmth, and tall ceilings.

The location of this home allows for plenty of privacy while also providing the family with lots of outdoor activities, including swimming and boating on the nearby river. Overall, this family home delivers a relaxing oasis to be enjoyed for years to come.

Above: Paying homage to the local vernacular, this waterfront retreat is characterized by cedar siding, white oak flooring, and a gable roof reminiscent of historic tobacco barns. The vertical wall to the left of the entryway is composed of Nichiha fiber-cement panels, which also anchors the main staircase on the interior. Weathered Corten steel panels frame the front courtyard and entrance.

This L-shaped home consists of intersecting rectangular forms. The main volume runs parallel to the river, encompassing the living, dining, and kitchen areas on the first level, while the owner’s suite is on the second level. A perpendicular wing hosts the guest quarters with two en-suite bedrooms on the main level and another on the upper level. An entry pathway to the front door reveals a lush courtyard and beyond to the river.

Hello, what a beautiful home. Can you tell me what white paint colour you used in the kitchen/main loving space?

Thank you,
Carol
