Gorgeous modern Scandinavian home in Minnesota invites nature inside

modern-scandinavian-home-exterior

This beautiful modern Scandinavian residence was designed by City Homes, nestled into a beautiful wooded property in Edina, Minnesota. Created for empty-nesters, the couple wished to downsize from their previous home and surround themselves with the beauty of nature.

Encompassing 3,275 square feet of living space, this three bedroom, three bath home enjoys the simplicity of thoughtfully selected amenities. From clean architectural lines expressed in black and white, to the ecologically-minded green roof atop the garage, this gorgeous home elegantly embodies the Scandinavian spirit of Hygge.

Gracious main level spaces are accented with a custom wood-burning fireplace, warm ash wood floors and drama at the two-story living and dining rooms. Upstairs three family bedrooms ensure comfort and privacy, with a fourth bedroom tucked into the basement level to welcome guests.

When designing this structure, the builders wished to create a cool and different house at a price point that people could afford yet not have to sacrifice the high standards of a premium build. The design and aesthetic are inspired by nature, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, inviting nature inside. The owners collaborated with the builders to position their home to preserve as many trees on the site as possible.

Grey slate tile flooring graces the front entry, garage entry, mudroom and fireplace base, along with the main floor powder bathroom and two upper level bathrooms. The remainder of this dwelling features wood plank flooring that has been sanded smooth. This consistency of materials helps to create a calming effect.

The owner’s purchased trays with plants that are fully potted from Bachman’s Floral, Gift & Garden. After placing them on the roof surface, they become self-sustaining, low-maintenance and help to decrease runoff because they absorb plenty of water.
