Johnston Design Group in collaboration with Linda McDougald Design designed this mountain home for green living, located in The Cliffs at Mountain Park, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Nestled at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this elegant 5,127 square foot, four bedroom and four-and-a-half bathroom mountain home is deeply rooted in its natural surroundings. Showcasing a color palette of subtle earthy grays and browns, the dwelling is brimming with natural textures, balanced with sophisticated finishes and fixtures.

Green Living Features: To achieve the LEED for Homes Silver rating, this home includes such green features as solar thermal water heating, solar shading, future PV array preparations, low-e clad windows, Energy Star appliances and fans, low-VOC interior paints and finishes, water-efficient fixtures, LED recessed lighting, environmentally preferable product cabinet material, high-efficiency geothermal heat pump, pervious paving, native plant and wildlife habitat and nature trail.

Exterior Materials: Cedar Board & Batten Siding – stained to a warm, dark brown (Cabot stain); cedar shake siding  – stained to a blue/gray semi-transparent stain (Sherwin Williams Woodscapes); natural stone veneer (North Carolina Granite Fieldstone); cedar heavy timber detailing – stained to a warm, dark brown; cedar shake roof – clear finished; board form concrete terraces; granite boulder walls; exterior lighting is Hinkley Dark Sky and Energy Star qualified; slate terrace flooring; full stone fireplace and built-in grill area.

An open floor plan ensures visibility throughout the home, preserving the fantastic views from all angles. Furnishings were selected for their clean lines with comfortable, textured fabrics. Contemporary accents are paired with vintage and rustic accessories.

Above: The trim is painted in Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze, while the walls are Sandy Hook Gray HC-108 | Benjamin Moore/ Eggshell. The stone was a North Carolina Granite Fieldstone Blend. This floor is 5″ wide, random length character white oak with a water-based stain.  The mantle, beams, trusses, and rafters are Cabot Solid Stain in Burnt Hickory. The windows are Eagle in the Chocolate Chip finish.

Above: The kitchen countertops are black graphite granite in a satin finish. Glass pendants are Troy Lighting, Arcadia Collection — Item # F1719FR. Pendant is from Visual Comfort. The cabinetry is maple. The main wall cabinets, island, and island table legs are painted in Sherwin Williams SW7514 Foothills in a satin finish. The tongue & groove ceiling is cedar. The stain is a custom water-based color.

I love the color of the blue/gray stain on the exterior and the garage door…they look gorgeous together. Do you know which color stains they are?
