MHK Architecture, in collaboration with Alair Homes, crafted this spectacular dream house that overlooks the pristine shores of Lake Keowee in the Cliffs community of Seneca, South Carolina. The home was designed as a reset, trading the pace of California for slower days on the lake. Built for family time and weekend visits from friends, the design carries that intention through every space.
Inside, elevated living spaces are perfect for entertaining, with indoor-outdoor living and stylish details at every turn. Outdoor spaces are ideal for summer on the lake, featuring expansive gathering areas such as a screened porch, covered patios, and a backyard fire pit. This home has it all. What We Love About This Home
The way the architecture frames Lake Keowee from nearly every room turns the view into part of the design rather than an afterthought. We love the layered material palette, the stacked stone, warm white oak, and blackened steel, which feels rugged yet refined throughout. We especially love how the outdoor spaces, from the screened porches to the stone fire pit, were given just as much attention as the interiors.
Tell Us: Which space speaks to you most in this South Carolina dream house? The dramatic stone fireplace in the living room, the petrified wood powder room sink, or the screened porch overlooking the water? Let us know in the comments below!

Above: In the living room, floor-to-ceiling glass frames Lake Keowee from every seat, while warm textures and modern lines keep the space feeling easy and lived-in.

Open-Concept Kitchen and Dining with Vaulted Wood Beam Ceiling

Above: The heart of the home is made for gathering. Vaulted ceilings, layered stone, and warm wood create a space that feels both elevated and easy, where family dinners stretch long, and friends naturally linger.

Above: The custom workspace in this kitchen is where the real work happens. A Wolf range and Subzero fridge bring performance to the space, paired with custom cabinetry by Visionary Cabinet Works and beautiful quartzite countertops by T&J Granite Counter Tops.

Above: Nothing says “come in and stay a while” quite like a generous kitchen island. Morning coffee turns into casual meals and long conversations, with stone carried from the exterior into the kitchen and warm white oak cabinetry grounding the space. A custom metal hood adds a modern edge, while doors open wide to the lake, making indoor living feel effortlessly connected to the outdoors.

Powder Room with Petrified Wood Sink and Marble Wall

Above: This small powder room layers raked marble, a custom petrified wood sink, and a Brizo Odin wall-mounted faucet for a moment that feels sculptural and intentional. Warm walnut cabinetry, quartzite counters, and soft gold lighting strike the balance between artful detail and everyday function.

Owner’s Suite with Lake Views and Spa-Inspired Bathroom

Above: The owner’s retreat was designed for slow mornings and quiet nights. Layered textures, warm tones, and soft light create a sense of calm, while doors opening to the lake blur the line between indoors and out, making this an effortless place to unwind and reset.

Lower-Level Rec Room and Wet Bar for Entertaining

Above: The lower-level rec room was created with gathering in mind. A trifold accordion door opens wide to the lake, making it easy for family and friends to spill in and out as the day unfolds. Sealed concrete floors with a soft marble-like finish keep the space grounded and durable, while the homeowner’s custom wall treatment adds depth and character. An easygoing spot designed for game nights, shared stories, and long weekends. The windows were sourced from Weather Shield and installed by Lock and Latch.
