Step inside this custom-built cottage by Spencer Douglas together with Sophie Clapperton Designs, nestled on the waterfront of Mirror Lake, a small lake along the Indian River between Lake Muskoka and Lake Rosseau, Ontario, Canada. Mirror Lake Cottage is a modestly sized yet impactful lake retreat. The 3,400-square-foot cottage accommodates a family with two adult sons and was designed for entertaining, with four bedrooms plus a basement nook for four future custom bunk beds.
The main floor features a striking kitchen with custom shadow-line cabinetry and leathered marble slabs, while clear pine ceiling accents and mixed-metal fixtures create warmth, contrast, and longevity. Custom interior shadow-line doors painted dark grey provide a subtle contrast against white walls, while dramatic porcelain slabs in the bathrooms give each its own identity and character.

What We Love About This Home
What we love most about this cottage is how every detail feels intentional, from the 16-foot Muskoka granite fireplace anchoring the great room to the leathered marble in the kitchen that brings a tactile, grounded quality to an otherwise refined space. The dark exterior is bold without feeling heavy, sitting naturally among the trees and rocks of the Muskoka shoreline. It is a cottage that feels genuinely luxurious yet completely at ease with its surroundings and perfectly suited to family living and entertaining.
