A modern ranch-inspired house with jaw-dropping views of the Grand Tetons

Set against the backdrop of the Grand Teton Mountain Range in Jackson, Wyoming, this modern ranch-inspired house designed by Robbins Architecture enhances rather than competes with the surrounding beauty. The site, complete with high peaks and a sage landscape, created an ideal canvas for a retreat from urban life. The homeowners are a family of four who desired a quiet, modern house that respected the context of the Western landscape.

In response, the architect created an open floor plan with walls of windows to fill each room with light and views. The exterior, made of cedar and stone, feels at home in the valley, while the silhouette, which includes both flat and gabled rooflines, references the mountains beyond. A grand window that anchors the home to this scenic artistry. This pattern weaves through the home with consistency. If you know the Schindler house, you will see the inspiration. Its beautiful language of low horizontal lines feels at home with the grassy horizon line while the larger dividers open to frame the jagged peaks.

NOTE: The Schindler House, designed by architect Rudolf Schindler in 1922, is an early example of modernist architecture in West Hollywood, California. Known for its pioneering open-plan design, the house features tilt-up concrete walls, sliding glass doors, and a flexible living space that challenges traditional residential design.
