This spectacular modern beach house was designed by Christopher Wright Architecture, located in Stanwood, a city in Snohomish County, Washington. The owners wanted something informal and cozy, something with a strong connection to the beautiful natural landscape of the property.
The otherwise simple and straightforward plan of the house jogs back-and-forth mainly to work around several great cedar trees. For a relatively small house there exits a great variety of spatial experiences. Much of the house has unusually low ceilings that one can almost reach up and touch. These cozy low ceiling spaces open up to spaces with higher ceilings and exposed beams and rafters.

The entry gallery, conceived as a breezeway, connects the front garden to the rear while bridging public and private wings.
The main goal of this project was to create disciplined, serene spaces, which are also really warm and have a sense of depth and soul.
A layering of spaces and carefully considered sight-lines create movement and interest, drawing one’s eye to what might be around the corner. Sliding walls allow for flexibility of use.
What We Love: This modern beach house provides its inhabitants with a welcoming respite with the most dreamy water views. The natural beauty that surrounds this home and the way it was designed to protect the landscape is one of many design features to be admired. We are especially loving the inviting living room with its expansive windows capturing mesmerizing views, we could spend all day hanging out in this incredible space!

Exposed beams and rafters became important architectural components. Their proportion, placement, and rhythm shape the underlying order of the house.
The comparatively precise and refined casework and fittings of the kitchen and bath are juxtaposed with the more rustic framework of the house.
