Feldman Architecture has designed this minimal concrete, wood, and glass home nestled within a rugged and remote area of California Wine Country. Complimenting its beautiful surroundings, the owners of this peaceful retreat are a newly retired couple who had originally utilized this Healdsburg property and existing guest house for years.
They commissioned the architects to create this garden pavilion tucked into the rolling hillside, with sweeping views over the California Wine Country. To preserve the elegant quality of this glass-enclosed dwelling, the structure is expressed on the exterior. This entails round steel columns that span both levels, providing support to the sunshade and corrugated metal roof — balancing modern lines with delicate glazing.

Massive concrete forms at the East and West facades provide both structure and storage while visually anchoring the dwelling to the property. The front facade of this home is made entirely of sliding glass panels by Panoramah.
The main goal for the design of this cabin was to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living, fulfilling the owner’s penchant for horticulture. Glass walls on three sides of this dwelling enables a strong physical and visual connection to the landscape; including the adjacent gardens and orchards and the distant Mt. Saint Helena.
What We Love: This two-story California Wine Country home showcases beautiful, clean lines with minimal details and furnishings. With a facade that completely opens to the view, one will feel at peace watching the sunrise over the zen-like hillside garden and rugged wine country. Offering a fantastic indoor-outdoor connection, this home easily becomes a fantastic place to entertain lots of family and friends. Simple materials and a restrained palette create an overall relaxing atmosphere that we are loving!

The interior design for this weekend retreat features a sophisticated layering of textures and color, inspired by the property’s orchards, gardens, and foliage. A palette of rich blues and greens within a serene glass box.
The interior features a pared-down material palette that is comprised of bleached Douglas fir, white Carrara marble, and concrete floors. With a quiet simplicity of form and a refined material palette, this dwelling beautifully compliments the existing structures and sits in harmony with the powerful hillside landscape.
