Ryan Street Architects in collaboration with designer Kara Childress has created this beautiful weekend home inspired by Belgian farmhouse style, located in the Houston Oaks community of Hockley, Texas. The homeowner resides in Houston and was looking for a rural getaway for weekend escapes โ the ranch is just a 45-minute drive! This bespoke dream home also comes with a variety of nearby outdoor activities, including fishing, horseback riding, tennis, and golfing.
Building supplier Southend Reclaimed worked with the project team to intricately weave reclaimed materials into the design. This home features Rough Sawn Beams, Original Face Brown Barnwood, and European White Oak Flooring to provide the perfect contrast to the bright and modern design. This beautiful home has 8,500 square feet of living space with five bedrooms (one of which is a cozy bunk room) and several living areas โ including a great room, open plan kitchen, dining area, drinks lounge, and game room.
A collaborative effort between the tradespeople, indoor-outdoor living spaces was created for entertaining and to take advantage of the scenic views of the Texan countryside. The property is surrounded by majestic mature oak trees, which they were careful to preserve to give the owners a feeling of seclusion. Aside from the native vegetation, there is also an infinity-edge pool for taking a dip.
The interior decor of this home took its cue from Belgian farmhouse style. Interior spaces reflect a historic European feel, featuring architectural salvage and furnishings with a muted color palette.
The designer selected several architectural antiques and building materials, bringing character and charm into this inviting home. Salvaged elements found throughout include reclaimed wood ceiling beams, stone flooring, vintage sinks and fountains, and 18th-century fireplace mantels, and antique European lighting.
What We Love: This gorgeous Texas home imparts warmth and authenticity that is inviting, comfortable, and has an abundance of charm. Living spaces have an air of sophistication yet the rustic elements help to create a sense of calm, which is idyllic for a weekend getaway. We are loving the indoor-outdoor connection and the use of reclaimed and vintage elements throughout this fabulous home.
