Elegant mountain contemporary home in Colorado radiates with warmth

Contemporary Mountain Home Renovation-Berglund Architects-05-1 Kindesign

This elegant mountain contemporary home was completely renovated by Berglund Architects, located on Eagle Crest Road, in Edwards, Colorado. The original home was constructed back in 1980, consisting of 3,000 square feet of living space, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The entire home was dated, with low ceilings, small windows and inadequate closet space. Most importantly, the home was not designed to maximize it’s incredible surroundings and views of the New York Range.

The architects salvaged and reconfigured the north portion of the dwelling, which is where the bedrooms, bathrooms and the laundry room were located—in addition to a compact two-car garage. They did however demolish the existing living, kitchen and dining areas in the southern portion of the home. They completely reconfigured and increased the size of the main living spaces, in addition to creating a spacious master bedroom suite.

On the north portion of the home, the architects increased the size of the garage to allow for a three-car parking space. They also added a dog wash, bike and gear storage. A new bathroom was added to an existing main level bedroom. Further additions includes a small deck with a staircase that leads to the main level. This also connects to brand new barbecue deck that was built just off the kitchen. The existing main level bathroom was converted into a mudroom, while the existing laundry room was expanded.

Roughly 3,000 square feet was added onto the existing home, including: a vaulted great room: living, kitchen and dining area, a formal entry, powder bath, small TV/sitting area and an expansive master bedroom suite. The great room features a cleanly detailed wood ceiling with wood beams that supports an exposed steel ridge beam.

What We Love: This elegant mountain contemporary dwelling offers beautiful design features from indoors to out. The redesign of this home provides a more spacious design, allowing the homeowners to live a more functional lifestyle. With both indoor and outdoor living, they have more options for entertaining and can enjoy the warmer summer months. Overall a beautifully designed home… would you agree? An expansive TV room with a pool table area and an office niche are located below the great room with a walkout to a lower level patio with a hot tub and fire pit. A basement located below the master suite helps to create plenty of additional storage space.
