Dreamy urban cottage in Minnesota inspired by Danish Hygge style

transitional-home-exterior

This exquisite cottage called “Hygge House” was designed by Swan Architecture, located in an urban setting of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Hygge, pronounced hoo-gah, means coziness in Danish. Hygge is also a mindset – it’s about relaxing and being kind to yourself – it’s about catering to what makes you happy.

The owner’s of this home wished to capture all of their goals into their dream cottage, including natural sunlight throughout the day. Warm and cozy textures like sheepskin rugs, wool carpeting, candles and glowing fires blanket the spaces. Baking, and photography and sewing are just a few of the passions the clients wanted to incorporate into the natural rhythm of the home.

The true Hygge of this home stems from the homeonwers, who invested joyful time and energy making this urban cottage a bright reflection of themselves.

Interesting and well-executed blend of traditional architecture with modern furnishings and accessories. The reading nooks are definitely cozy as is the rest of the house except for the first sitting room pictured (white sofa and dark grey cabinetry). It feels quite stark to me. Guess the exception does prove the rule! My compliments to the owners and their remodeling team.
