Minimalist lakefront hideaway in tranquil woodland setting of Putnam Valley

Architectural studio Hudson Design has created this modern, minimalist lakefront hideaway overlooking Lake Oscawana in Putnam Valley, New York. The homeโ€™s location borders a protected forest. As a result the secluded woodland area played a prominent role in influencing its design.

The remote setting of this 3,000 square foot dwelling was well suited for an open floor plan, floor-to-ceiling structural steel windows, and unobstructed vistas. The entire residence is focused on the lake and surrounding landscape, with views from every room. Expansive windows, soaring ceilings and exterior balconies help to reduce the barrier between interior and exterior.

The architects designed a simpler exterior โ€“ one that does not conflict with the natural beauty of the surroundings. Therefore attention to minimal details on the interior produced a home that makes you more aware of the surroundings then the enclosure of the building. Details that were included, were done so with fine craftsmanship and authentic materials.

what an odd house. all kinds of “sight gags” and incongruous solutions. Interestingly, we never got a glimpse of the building itself.
