Treehouse-like midcentury home flaunts stunning views over Puget Sound

mid-century-home-exterior

This midcentury home has undergone a beautiful refurbishment by owner and architect Steve Hoedemaker of Hoedemaker Pfeiffer, located in West Seattle, Washington. Constructed in 1966 by noted Northwest architect Ralph Anderson, this 3,500 square foot home was originally designed for a couple of art collectors.

The design of this unique home has an elevated treehouse-like feel, perched on a cliffside overlooking Puget Sound. It also has a resort-like feel with its incredible footprint extended onto an additional lot that features four structures, a sparkling swimming pool and colorful gardens.

Project Team: Architecture: Ralph Anderson | Renovation: Hoedemaker Pfeiffer | Interior Design: Hoedemaker Pfeiffer

Working with landscape architect Randy Allworth and Hoedemaker Pfeiffer’s own interiors team, the scope of this project entailed: refreshed finishes, updating lighting, mad a few interior and exterior modifications, painted everything, refreshed the landscape and worked with new and existing furniture for a high impact low budget update to this classic midcentury home.

What We Love: This midcentury home is an incredible showcase of stylish furnishings and an array of art and collectibles. The home’s original character was beautifully preserved, while interior spaces were refreshed to create an inviting place to live and entertain. A strong indoor-outdoor connection has been established thanks to large windows and an expansive deck overlooking the Puget Sound.

I really love this home. I normally don’t care for mid-century design but this one feels more than just mid-century, very unique, calming, and beautiful. It feels like an artist’s home from the original owners, and I would say the current architect who owns it is an artist as well. The spa greenhouse, outdoor landscaping, pool and balcony space are amazing, and of course the view of the Puget Sound, could it be any lovelier? I would have loved more pictures, bathroom and kitchens too, but just more. Thanks for sharing this home.
