This family dream house in Southern California designed by Amber Interiors is proof that a sophisticated, stylish home can be conducive to kids. This home was designed for a family of seven: two parents, four young kids, and one Golden Retriever. One of the major goals of this renovation project entailed brightening up the entire home.
To achieve this, the designer preserved the original white oak plank flooring — stripping and refinishing it with a lighter custom stain. To maximize brightness in the interior spaces, the majority of the home was painted in Simply White OC-117 | Benjamin Moore. The result of this transformation is the perfect combination of traditional and cozy, a little upscale farm, country cool and east coast-vibe.
What We Love: This family dream house showcases incredible attention to detail and stylish, cozy living spaces that will make you never want to leave! Living spaces offer a warm and inviting color palette, mixing found vintage pieces with new furnishings, patterns and a layering of textures. Overall we are just loving this gorgeous home and the laid-back design style the designer has created throughout… Readers, please share with us your overall thoughts and impressions on this home in the Comments!

Above: The designer expanded and pushed out the kitchen and old sunroom to add a breakfast nook and living room. With four children, the homeowner wanted to have an open concept to keep tabs on everyone. Existing ceiling beams were removed and replaced with tongue and groove ceilings, elongating the room and creating a more visually appealing space. A large center island features Calacatta marble countertops, the base painted in Wrought Iron 2124-10 | Benjamin Moore. For the perimeter cabinets, the designer selected Revere Pewter HC-172 | Benjamin Moore to add depth and more color.
Above: A built-in banquette was added to the kitchen space, enabling the family to gather for meal-time. The bleached walnut dining table and black oak dining chairs are both from Shoppe Amber Interiors. The furnishings add a touch of modern to what is an overall traditionally styled dream house.

The design team added wall paneling, new cabinetry, widened the hallway by using the closet space and opening it all up, put in new brick floors in a herringbone pattern, and painted everything a fresh coat of Simply White OC-117 | Benjamin Moore (the designer’s favorite go-to color choice).
