This rustic mountain sanctuary, known as Springs Ranch, was designed by Montana-based Miller-Roodell Architects and is located in Stanley, Idaho, in the heart of the Sawtooth Valley. Uniquely situated atop geothermal activity, the property features natural hot springs that bubble up from the ground, and a series of warm creeks flows through the property into the Salmon River, making this a remarkable setting.
The owner, an empty nester with grown children, was drawn to this property for its openness, privacy, wildlife, and wilderness. She had extensive experience in homebuilding and knew she wanted a rustic style that accurately reflected who she is, her interests, and her influences. There is a soaking area and pond for the entire family, as well as a private spa at one of the three cabins. Boardwalks wind through the site, connecting the cabins while preserving the natural pattern of springs beneath.

The overriding mood, she insisted, should be serenity. To that end, it was crucial that the house be simple, quiet in tone, and not overly ornamented or heavily furnished. Reclaimed and indigenous materials, blending seamlessly with thoughtfully designed spaces, are the hallmark of this Idaho mountain home.
