MHK Architecture has designed this gorgeous contemporary lakeside home located on Lake Keowee, in Sunset, South Carolina. From the beginning of this project, nature wasn’t the backdrop; it was the driver. The views, the trees, the light, the breeze—everything informed the form, the materials, and the way the home opens up to the lake. A design that lets the landscape lead.

What We Love About This Home

This lakeside home in South Carolina pairs rugged stacked stone and dark cedar siding with soaring walls of glass, letting the Lake Keowee scenery take center stage from nearly every room. The layered decks, infinity-edge pool, and cascading water feature create a seamless flow between the interior and the wooded, waterfront setting. Inside, a floating staircase, sculptural brass lighting, and a three-sided fireplace give the open-concept spaces a refined, gallery-like warmth without losing the home’s cozy mountain-lake character.
