This modern mountain retreat, nestled in the sleepy town of Driggs, Idaho, was a collaboration with Chicago-based architecture firms Robbins Architecture and Herringbone Design. The simple barn-like structures are clad in cedar and capped with standing seam metal roofs, delivering clean-lined, rustic forms that are beautifully at home in their surroundings.
The front facade marries the mountain vernacular with a modern flat roof and glass wall gesture. Balance weaves through all aspects of the design, sometimes with the resolve of symmetry and sometimes with the serenity of thoughtful detail. This Western retreat is quiet in its presentationโfamiliar, warm, welcoming, yet powerful and architectural.

What We Love: This Idaho mountain retreat provides its inhabitants with open, social spaces that seamlessly connect with the outdoors and intimate spaces to relax and unwind. We love how the main living space flows into the kitchen while offering simple access to an alfresco eating area, perfect for entertaining. Expansive walls of glazing help this home to feel expansive and inviting, while the open floor plan creates a harmonious balance between comfort and functionality.
