ELD Architecture, along with Red House Building, created this spectacular rustic-modern barn house in Vermont’s Mad River Valley. The home was designed as a guest house, inspired by the simplicity and character of a traditional barn. Dark exterior siding gives way to warm wood interiors, with expansive openings framing the mountain views beyond.
Reclaimed wood covers nearly every wall and ceiling inside, lending the rooms a layered, lived-in warmth. A jewel-toned tiled shower and a floral wallpapered laundry room add surprising bursts of color throughout. A relaxed retreat for family, friends, and one very happy golden retriever.

What We Love About This Home
Set against the rolling hills and Green Mountain views of the Mad River Valley, this barn house feels right at home in its surroundings, its dark exterior echoing the tree line and hills beyond. Reclaimed wood, black metal, and stone carry through nearly every room, giving the whole home a warm, grounded feel from the entry to the owner’s bedroom. Overall, this home is so warm and inviting that visiting guests may never wish to leave!
