Becky Shea Design in collaboration with Tupper Custom Homes has transformed this traditional home into a modern farmhouse hideaway in the hills of Hope Valley, between Chapel Hill and Durham, North Carolina. The owners desired a cool urban vibe in the country while relocating for work.
The scope of this project entailed reworking the entire original architectural plan with new roof lines, windows, exterior siding, and a complete reconfiguration of the floor plan. Applying a holistic design process, the designer considered every single element in the design to ensure cohesiveness and thoughtfulness throughout the dwelling.
Encompassing just over 7,500 square feet of living space, this home features seven bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a library, study, gym, kids’ playroom, screened-in patio with an outdoor kitchen, concrete fireplaces, motorized screens, and plenty more. The designers adorned the interiors with plenty of layers and texture to make this expansive dwelling feel cozy.
Every piece of custom millwork was thoughtfully designed, staying true to the organic modernist principles of the designers — from the vanities to the built-ins, to the kitchen cabinets, the beautiful white oak doors to enter the study, and so much more. This project was a true expression of an urban character being translated into a countryside setting.
What We Love: This farmhouse hideaway provides a wonderful countryside haven for family living. Sprawling living spaces allow the occupants ample space for both family gatherings and privacy. We are especially loving the beautifully appointed kitchen with all of its storage options and the screened porch with its living, dining, and outdoor kitchen area, cozy fireplace, string lights for ambiance, and serene countryside views.
Tell Us: What are your overall thoughts on the design of this dwelling? Would you change any of the details if this were your family home? Let us know in the Comments!
