Inside this modern farmhouse style home tour, design-build studio Beautiful Chaos has renovated a 1990s Prairie-style home in Maple Plain, Minnesota. The owners of the studio — a family with four kids — was looking for a slower paced lifestyle, wishing for a countryside home to raise their children. Set on 5-acres, this two-story home offers 3,500 square feet of living space. 

Having plenty of room to roam was idyllic, however their newly purchased home lacked architectural interest. The layout had ample potential, with the master bedroom housed on the first floor and the kitchen set away from the main living spaces. The designer went to work, sprucing up this home with some farmhouse charm.

The design duo began with changing out the kitchen’s honey oak cabinets with Shaker-style cabinetry. The hand-distressed finish gave an aged look, while millwork, shiplap and bead board added character to the walls, windows and ceiling.
