Architectural studio Mountain Architecture together with Rumor Designs has reimagined this mountain house into a peaceful sanctuary in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This spacious dwelling was originally constructed in a charming Tuscan style, boasting arched doorways and richly textured yellow and gold-toned walls.
Recognizing its idyllic location and breathtaking views, the new homeowners envisioned their dream home. Embracing a modern design aesthetic with clean lines and a neutral color palette, the owners were also open to incorporating contemporary colorways, bold wallpapers, and a blend of traditional elements, culminating in a bright and playful mountain sanctuary. The renovation’s most significant transformation focused on the layout. Several walls were taken down to create an open concept, particularly enhancing the spaciousness of the kitchen. The indoor pool was thoughtfully repurposed into a welcoming family room, while the exterior underwent a remarkable change with the installation of new windows featuring elegant black mullions, harmoniously resonating with the true essence of mountain modern architecture.
Modern furniture styles and textiles were meticulously integrated throughout the home to establish a foundation of clean lines and sophisticated simplicity. Adding points of interest, graphic and textured wallpapers adorned the powder bath and bedroom, creating a laid-back and easy-going ambiance.
However, amidst the remarkable transformation, the project encountered its most substantial challenge—a pandemic. The unforeseen circumstances led to a scarcity of subcontractors, resulting in a longer timeline than initially anticipated, along with delays in material and furniture shipments. Despite the challenges, the homeowners displayed exceptional patience, waiting an entire year for the final pieces of furniture to arrive and complete the design. Ultimately, the homeowners found it was worth the wait, as they finally feel at home.
