Ashley Martin Design has reimagined an outdated Mediterranean style house into a beautiful modern family home located in The Moorings neighborhood of Naples, Florida. This young family had originally resided in Manhattan and during the peak of the pandemic, purchased their two-story, five-bedroom Floridian home to start a new journey.
Discovering the Winter Park-based designer on Instagram, they had an initial Zoom meeting and opted to undertake a complete top-to-bottom overhaul of their newly acquired abode. The designer’s vision for the home was bright, airy and family-friendly. The first goal of this project was to create a dedicated entry space.
Originally the plan enabled the guest to view the entire main level living space upon entering through the front door. The designer appreciates the element of surprise, aiming for a gradual revelation of details as one navigates through each room. An angled wall was straightened, while the office was enclosed with frosted glass doors, playing double duty as a guest room with its pull-out sofa bed. An additional wall was added to the space to effectively separate the foyer from the primary living area. The blue grasscloth wallpaper in the office is from Phillip Jeffries.
This Mediterranean-style family room was given a bright and airy makeover with a fresh coat of white paint. The arches above the sliding glass doors were preserved, while built-in shelving was reimagined. Shiplap was added to the walls to give a casual beachy vibe.
The design journey commenced with a predominantly neutral and blue color palette, aimed at revitalizing and illuminating the residence. To accommodate young children and guests, the designer carefully selected furniture upholstered in easy-to-clean Crypton fabric, ensuring a family-friendly living environment.
In pursuit of a timeless aesthetic, the designer infused the home with modernized elements that retained an intimate atmosphere. The project team encountered a significant hurdle as product development was hindered by the pandemic; nevertheless, they thrived under such constraints. After just four months, they were able to reimagine this home into a stunning, timeless, and family-friendly abode.
