See this outstanding shingle style home on the Greenwich coastline

VanderHorn Architects in collaboration with Significant Homes have designed this beautiful shingle-style home perched to capture the sweeping harbor views in Greenwich, Connecticut. Challenges presented to this new build project include grading and ecological constraints.

The beautiful landscaping around the residence is organized on high ground and cascades naturally towards the meandering coastline. Formal symmetry in the plan introduces a dominant facade to the neighborhood, signaling the entrance and front yard while creating a private and resort-like promenade of lawn, gardens, terraces, pool, spa, cabana, and sport court.

Clipped gable ends outstretch at elegant angles, each seemingly identical before assuming a unique variety of bays, porches, balconies, and dormers. A horseshoe driveway nestles into the edge of the property. Alaskan yellow cedar shingles, left natural at the roof and stained a cool gray on the walls, traverse complex but tailored volumes.

Classic detailing can be found throughout this beautifully designed home, including the formal rooms and the owner’s bedroom suite. Large windows and French doors take in a savory amount of daylight, all while capturing alluring water views.

The front porch opens into a grand paneled stair hall with rhythmic details and rich accents. Intriguing window shapes and patterns, white decorative railings, columns, and trim deliver fluent styling. A shingle flair crowns the rubble stone veneer that clads the first floor and foundation before branching into lower retaining walls and planting beds.
