This serene lake house was designed as a seasonal retreat by Phinney Design Group, located in Bolton Landing, New York. The dwelling is nestled on a hilltop property overlooking Lake George towards the end of Northwest Bay in the Adirondack Mountains.

A long deep path through the trees offered an opportunity to explore replacing an older camp structure with a new getaway home for the owners from New York City. Continue below to see the rest of this exhilarating home…

The dwelling provides both a sense of retreat along with lake access, modern amenities, and plenty of space for larger family gatherings. The brow of the hill was selected for the project site, positioned near an existing natural rock outcropping. Here the home acts as a perch, overlooking the lake through the trees while providing both a view and private enclave.

A meandering pathway through the woods down to the lakeshore with its private beach enables the owners access to one of the most renowned summer vacation destinations in the country: Lake George. On the interior of the home, however, the wooded clearing at the brow of the hill feels a world apart as a relaxing and peaceful place to retreat from the everyday.

Natural materials with a modern disposition were selected including Southbay Quartzite, American Granite, bluestone, western red cedar, and douglas fir beams incorporating both regional and durable sources. Clean lines, natural materials, and an open plan with a multi-story glass facade and lower-level entertainment room give the interior a serene, comfortable, and modern appeal.

What We Love: This serene lake house getaway provides its inhabitants with a welcoming respite from city life. Large windows frame snowy views during the winter and beautiful nature views during the summer. We are loving the warmth of this house with its wooden flooring, wood-trimmed windows and doors, and the wood-beamed ceilings in the open kitchen and dining area. We think this would be a wonderful refuge to connect with the great outdoors.

Tell Us: What are your overall thoughts on the design of this home? Would this be your ideal escape from everyday living? Let us know in the Comments below!
