A contemporary family home gets a stunning facelift in the Hudson Valley

Chango & Co. has redesigned the interiors of this beautiful family home located in Westchester County, in the heart of the historic Hudson Valley in New York state. The owners had one goal in mind when they purchased this recently constructed home, to make it kid-friendly but not cookie-cutter.

It needed to be comfortable and inviting for the family to enjoy quality time together along with entertaining their friends. The living spaces needed to be imaginative, reflecting the unique personalities of the owners and their multicultural backgrounds. Encompassing 4,600 square feet of living space with five bedrooms, there was plenty of living space for this family of four.

Despite being newly constructed, the designer made a few tweaks to customize this home for its new occupants. This includes a white-bricked herringbone backsplash in the kitchen and a built-in dining bench to enjoy casual family meals. All of the light fixtures were swapped out, and the wall received a fresh coat of crisp white paint, along with new window treatments. Furniture selections are contemporary and clean-lined with upholstered pieces intermingled with accents of raffia, jute, and wood.

A layering of neutrals sets the tone of this dwelling, with pops of color interspersed throughout. You will find color in the graphic wallcoverings and playful pieces such as the denim blue upholstered four-poster bed in the primary bedroom. Black accents and tribal-chic elements effortlessly flow throughout the living spaces, harmonioulsy connecting them.

To protect furnishings from spills in heavily trafficked spaces, the designer used high-performance perennial textiles and solution-dyed acrylics. The family’s heritage can be witnessed in the African-inspired and sourced upholsteries and accents, such as the Kuba cloth pillows decorating the white sofa in the living room and the Juju hats in the front foyer. The finished result is a home that feels light and airy, comfortable yet playful. There is a wonderful flow between lively prints and relaxing neutrals.

What We Love: This fabulous home was given a complete makeover, offering stylish yet functional living spaces for family living. The designer added an abundance of concealed and open storage to meet this family’s lifestyle needs, along with comfortable furnishings for relaxation. Overall, we are loving the playful patterns of the wallcoverings and unique accents that are a reflection of the owner’s multicultural heritage.
