Incredible dream house gets renovated with a California moody vibe

transitional-style-home-exterior

Eric Olsen Design in collaboration with Studio McGee has renovated this beautiful home with warm tones, textural details and a California moody vibe. The scope of this project entailed a full gut remodel to the main house along with a guest house addition to this Southern California property, with the goal of making them flow as seamlessly as possible.

The property features spectacular views and beautiful natural surroundings, with olive trees dotting the landscape. The project team focused their attention on bringing the outside in throughout the design. On the exterior facade, black stain was applied to the board and batten siding.

Additionally the facade features a beautiful stone, black windows and steel window systems. Reclaimed wood headers can be found on the window and door openings, adding lots of texture which is carried into the interior. Be sure to continue below to see some before images of the main house prior to the renovation!

Above: The front porch area is a brand new addition to the home, along with a dutch door and a hanging daybed — a dreamy way to greet visitors when they walk into this space.

transitional-style-entry

Above: There is no designated entry when you walk into this home, so the designer had to create an entry moment. She added a vintage console table, a mirror and added accessories to define the space. Designer Tip: If you don’t have an entryway with four walls, you can still create a welcoming moment. Simply find a spot (adjacent to your door) for a console and mirror to make it feel like it’s own room.

Above: Walking past the entry, you will find a big open space with a living area, dining area and a bar with views that look out to the deck and swimming pool. The sofa acts as a divider between the living and dining areas, facing an exquisite plaster fireplace.

The statement fireplace features a combination of concrete and quartz around the surround with an eye-catching sloped effect on the plaster. Accenting the fireplace is a large olive tree with accents of leather and iron to create a moody effect.

What We Love: The California moody vibe of this home is simply stunning. Living spaces are warm and inviting and very textural. We are especially loving the front porch addition with its beautiful dutch door and hanging daybed that feels serene and inviting. The guest house addition is just as exquisite as the main house, one may never want to leave!
