Modern retreat basks in its exquisite Rocky Mountain surroundings

This mountain modern retreat took two years to renovate, designed by Denver-based interiors studio Andrea Schumacher Interiors, located just outside of Vail, Colorado. The home is a mix of clean-lined upholstered goods and antique pieces, resulting in a timeless and unique space. Set on a sprawling 146-acres, ‘Pony Up Ranch’ features an equestrian center, a wellness facility that includes an indoor swimming pool and a garage that is enclosed in glass, doubling as a movie theater.

Comprised of 8,600 square feet of living space, the dwelling contains one standout feature at the homeowner’s request. A vast collection of 2,500 books needed a place to be put on display. So, doing away with the traditional dining room, the homeowner instead opted for a space which he and the designer refer to as the “dining study”. Bookshelves line the walls, so when the couple does have a dinner party, their three custom built walnut desks on castors play double duty, interlocking together to create one expansive dining table.

A wall of glass was designed to retract into the ceiling, the table can be rolled out onto a stone decking where they can enjoy entertaining al fresco, next to a manmade trickling stream. The homeowners can comfortably seat up to 20-25 guests, enjoying the peaceful retreat that is luminous when the sun goes down. The interiors of this mountain home features a transitional styling that is aesthetically pleasing, flowing from one beautiful space to the next.

What We Love: The dining/study of this modern retreat is a fantastic concept, since the dining room is not used on a regular basis and libraries are always in style! The surrounding property is spectacular, from the meandering stream to the pond, this is one tranquil retreat that could be enjoyed all year round. What do you think of this home?
