A contemporary hilltop house with breathtaking Texas Hill Country views

contemporary-home-exterior

This contemporary hilltop house was designed by Vanguard Studio in collaboration with Laura Burton Interiors, located in West Lake Hills, a suburb of Austin, Texas. The architects constructed this home with the goal of maximizing skyline views of downtown Austin through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.

Outdoor requirements called for level turf areas, a pool with an automated cover, and expansive outdoor living. Indoor/outdoor living spaces are seamlessly connected via flush sill multi-slide doors. Covered outdoor spaces can be screened in by automated shades. Continue below to see the rest of this spectacular home…

What We Love: This contemporary hilltop house features dramatic architecture with minimal design details. Created to maximize its hilltop location, large windows capture views of the incredible Texas Hill Country and Austin’s downtown skyline. Overall, we are loving the layout of this home and the harmonious flow between interior and exterior. The open and airy floor plan is ideal for entertaining, especially with the kitchen that links to an outdoor kitchen via a pass-through window.

Site finished rift and quarter sawn Oak flooring runs through most of the house and up a stairwell with a custom-designed partition and bronze safety rail. Just about every room in this dwelling features a truly special light fixture, a unique tile, or a rare stone finish.

For the interiors of this home, the owners desired sleek open spaces with high functionality and minimal visual clutter. They selected a color palette that was fresh and simple. Warmth and interest were achieved through touches of stone and wood on walls, floors, soffits, cabinetry, and a custom-designed stair partition.

The owners love marble, which was used liberally in the bathrooms. The designer opted for high durability in the kitchen, selecting a natural quartzite called Mont Blanc. The veining is subtle and has an organic and timeless appeal. Non-obtrusive Gaggenau appliances provide function. A tall smooth plaster vent-hood anchors the space and adds color variation, texture, and interest.
