This spectacular modern dream home was imagined by architects McClean Design, integrated into a hillside of the Trousdale Estates, a neighborhood in Beverly Hills, California. Consisting of 10,000 square feet of opulent living space, this home was completed in August 2016. The home features breathtaking panoramic views over the famed Los Angeles skyline. The homeowners requested that the architects design an extensive basement level for spaces to entertain friends and family.
This solution was due to the limited ability to build above grade due to the challenging hillside site. This posed a challenge for the design team to find a way to bring light into these spaces since the design is an actual below grade basement. The resolution was to create a light well that features a water garden positioned in the middle of the residence. A dramatic glass bridge was constructed over the light well as an entranceway into the home.
The glass bridge created an interesting experience to those visiting the home. It creates a perception for the guest as they leave the water garden behind and enter into the residence. The water garden below the glass bridge at the basement level dapples light throughout, making these spaces visually interesting. This also contrasts greatly with the upper level rooms that features views over the city.
The interiors of the home radiates with natural light thanks to extensive walls of glass. Some walls of glass are operable, helping to blur the lines between indoors and out. The warm color palette consists of natural materials that helps to aesthetically create an inviting and comfortable living environment for both homeowners and guests alike.
