A couple from the west coast purchased a spec home on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina that was in need of a personal touch, commissioning designer Cortney Bishop for the task. He is an avid surfer originally from California and she is an artist that was raised in the South. After her roots were beckoning her to come back home, the couple selected this locale, based on not only the beauty of the area but that it was close to the ocean, a must for the laid-back empty nesters. Their design style is a casual, west coast style luxury that need to be incorporated into this 5,000 square foot residence that originally lacked character. She preferred smaller houses, so the designer’s task was to make this home feel more scaled down and lived-in. Included in the design is an artist’s studio on the third floor, as a line in the homeowner’s art collection — which can be found here — just got picked up by Serena & Lily! The first floor is the couple’s master suite, where on the second floor is a guest suite and a screened-in porch, along with the living room, dining room and kitchen.
The inspiration for the interiors began with the bright and airy second floor living room, where a pair of egg-shaped chairs sourced from McGuire, with a mid-century framing, soft cream fabric and walnut wood arms. The color palette reflects on the couple’s west coast style, drawing on hues of blues and greens from the ocean and their surrounding environment. Mid-century and Bohemian styled pieces have been mixed in throughout the interior design scheme, along with personal touches that makes this a very warm and welcoming home.
What We Love: The colorful punches throughout this home with a beachy-boho vibe that is very inviting… but the kitchen is very drool-worthy, it is so spacious… and two islands, you would host one fantastic dinner party in this home! All the spaces are so open and airy, the designer did a wonderful job of really pulling the spaces together and adding a personal touch that makes this place feel really lived-in. What do you think, is this home your style?
We have featured some other inspiring home tours in South Carolina that are also very drool-worthy and not to be missed, such as this Rustic barn inspired vacation retreat on Spring Island or this very inspiring Contemporary mountain home with vintage-rustic details.
