This charming crisp white home caters to outdoor living, a perfect place to escape and unwind on the island of Formentera, in the Mediterranean Sea. The home is positioned on a quiet corner wrapped in silence, less than a mile from the beach. The property is an oasis of freshness, with junipers, pines and the intense scent of rosemary perfuming the air. An inner courtyard is the ideal spot for both sun and shade depending on the time of day. Climbing bougainvillea cover the porches, add bright bursts of color. The home is spread out over one level in the shape of a “U”, with porches wrapped around the perimeter. The home is open and airy and full of light, with cross-ventilation. The interiors showcase luminous white washed walls, tinged with natural colors of fabrics and accessories. All of the rooms have access to the outdoor living spaces, so during the summer months it helps keep fresh air circulating. Natural ventilation usually cools off the home so their is barely a need for air conditioning and ceiling fans.
We love the inviting outdoor living spaces of this cozy retreat, aside from feeling island bound, it would be a very hard place to leave. With the beach so close to the home, and cool ocean breezes to keep you feeling refreshed, this charming home is very ideal. Our favorite spot, the outdoor shower. There is nothing better than showering outside, if you have never experienced it before, it is heaven…and so ideal to wash off after spending the day at the beach before retreating indoors! What do you think, what is your favorite spot in this cool island home?
We have featured many breathtaking houses here on 1 Kindesign from the island of Formentera. In case you missed seeing them, we have a couple here to share with you: Chic summer retreat on the Formentera countryside and Beautiful stone house on Formentera: Can Manuel d’en Corda.
A spacious living room with two sofas centered around a fireplace is the perfect spot for conversation when the owners are not spending their time enjoying the outdoors. Rainwater harvesting is also an active practice in this home, where water is a precious commodity due to island living.
The interior courtyard is an deal shelter from too much sun or wind.
