This modern mountain dwelling was designed by Kelly & Stone Architects in collaboration with Colby Mountain Properties, located in the private community of Martis Camp, Truckee, California. This spacious 7,093 square foot home offers six bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms. A stunning feature of the open plan living/dining room and kitchen is a 72″ long fireplace that anchors the great room.
Here, floor-to-ceiling pocketing doors slide out of sight, revealing magnificent views of the valley and Carson Range beyond. A back deck is nestled into the hillside to the south, capturing views of Lookout Mountain. From all points of this space — kitchen, living and dining room — the scene can change from warm, intimate and enclosed one moment to being “one with nature” the next, as the indoor/outdoor lines disappear. Even the corners of the walls of the window seem to meld away.
Tying this three-level home together is a glass elevator with stunning views and a series of graceful, floating staircases that leads to the private bedroom zones. Walnut floors run the course of the home while doors, trim and cabinets are white oak. Countertops are granite and the decks feature floating porcelain tiles that secret water away from the surface, along with two fireplaces where guests and family can gather.
What We Love: This incredible mountain dwelling offers a seamless connection between indoors and out, inviting in the beautiful sights and sounds of nature. Warmth and comfort is infused into this modern design thanks to the heavy use of wood on the floors and ceiling. Luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms makes this home ideal for entertaining guests, along with a fantastic kitchen and wine cellar.
