A serene weekend getaway in Washington gets an amazing renovation

This serene weekend getaway nestled in Cle Elum, a city within Kittitas County, Washington, underwent a stunning renovation by architectural design firm Hoedemaker Pfeiffer. Former clients of the architects, the owners acquired one of the firm’s latest designs to transform into their cherished vacation residence.

While the location and general layout of this 3,000-square-foot dwelling were a perfect fit, some details needed to be changed. The new challenge was to work within an existing envelope to create more usable space while updating the look and feel of the interiors to match the image of a young, active family of four.

On the main floor, the existing plan was modified to include a library adjacent to the living room. On the second floor, a new bunk room and separate play area for the kids was created. The goal of the interior palate and furniture design was to reflect the landscape that surrounds the house โ€“ calm, inviting, and comfortable.

In an effort to forget about the presence of neighbors and protect from wind, this building was created with two courtyards that help focus views on the undeveloped beauty of the valley below. The shape of the building also allows light on three sides of multiple rooms. Clerestory windows animate a bridge in the great room that connects loft spaces.

The interior furniture budget for the project was limited, so the designer and owner worked together to find classic solutions from major retailers and then paired them with custom and vintage accessory items. The result is a place where you simply want to be.
