Ike Baker Velten Architects and Dan Fink Studio have reimagined this vineyard escape, a beautiful modern design located in St. Helena, an iconic wine region of Napa County, California. The project team was responsible for redesigning and expanding this family home, providing the opportunity to reinvent the idea of a wine country retreat.
The design of this vineyard escape is a unique blend of East and West influences, uniting in architectural simplicity. Indoors and out, the rustic Provencal materiality and lavender fields harmonize with the local landscape and the vineyard beyond. Mossy plaster, waxed raw walnut, elemental bluestone floors, and simple furnishings dressed in fine, beautiful linens. Warm woodwork draws upon Japanese cabinetmaking, adding intimacy and easy restraint.
Inside, the architects designed a series of informal, relaxed spaces arranged along more formal axes. This layout creates indoor and outdoor living spaces that offer intimacy while connecting to the vineyards’ gardens, pool, vistas, and Mount St. Helena beyond.
The design feels both familiar and fresh, grounded in earthy materials and palette, with a tailored simplicity in all of the details and furnishings. It is intentionally arranged to accommodate entertaining and family gatherings while still allowing for intimate spaces suited for individual reflection. The home offers delightful moments of expansiveness and several areas to enjoy the natural beauty that defines Napa Valley, whether in full sun or shade.
What We Love: This modern vineyard escape offers a warm and inviting atmosphere in the beautiful Napa Valley. Aside from the stunning natural surroundings, this home has a serene color palette with earthy materials, creating an attractive living environment for its inhabitants. Overall, we love every detail in this home, especially the gorgeous kitchen and the outdoor dining area with tranquil vineyard views.

The designer kept the walls understated to balance the intricate material choices. A small artwork above the range references the birds that fly around the vineyard.
