JLF Architect in partnership with Big-D Signature has designed this modern rustic retreat located in the bucolic Hudson River Valley neighborhood of Snedens Landing, New York. Snedens Landing is a secluded enclave in the Palisades, perched high up along the Hudson River and just under an hour’s drive from Manhattan. For the project team, the concept behind this serene escape from city living was to capture the dramatic river views while preserving the old-growth forest.
The architect designed the weathered slatted fence and stone gate to mark the entrance to this understated country retreat. The bluff-top location inspired an open-plan linear layout. A shingled-roof central form nods to the siteโs original cottage, while contemporary glass flanks the reclaimed vertical-siding entry, drawing in sunlight and offering views of the Hudson beyond.
