Twelve bucolic acres on the Wye River set the stage for this gorgeous historic waterfront home, reimagined by Purple Cherry Architects together with Pilli Custom Homes. The Wye River is a 16.3-mile-long tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. A major renovation and a massive addition tripled the square footage of the late 19th-century brick home.
The existing historic structure was restored and renovated to include modern amenities. Thrilling in its craftsmanship and architectural detailing, it is an exquisite work of art. Although grand in scale, the residence features a variety of thoughtfully proportioned spaces that are inviting and comfortable, whether casual family areas or more formal rooms. The home’s new entry sequence—a transportive drive, entry court, and welcoming front porch- completes the vision of grace and ease.

This Chesapeake Bay masterpiece is nestled on 12 acres in a serene and bucolic setting with magnificent water views.
A Grand New Front Entry Porch

This home also features a new front entry porch that completes a courtyard design. Marrying the old architecture with the new to create a seamless design was essential to the creation of this stunning waterfront home.

A sunroom, accessible through leaded glass sliding doors, features wraparound windows that flood the space with natural light. The checkered marble flooring continues from the foyer, creating a cohesive aesthetic.

This turn-of-the-century home is grand in scale, yet it comprises smaller, comfortable living spaces.
A Formal Living Room With Marble Fireplace

Truly a veritable work of art—unmatched in its craftsmanship and architectural detailing. A few of its many exceptional living spaces include a formal living room with its fireplace and custom built-ins, the large open kitchen with island and reclaimed brick-floored butler’s pantry, the coffered ceiling hallway, a new one-story faceted sunroom, the owner’s bedroom with his and hers bathrooms, and a screened porch with views of the river all make this place special for its owners and their guests.
An Open Plan Kitchen With Coffered Ceiling

The kitchen showcases a transitional design with a neutral palette. A coffered ceiling and open-plan layout enhance its grandeur.

What We Love About This Home
What makes this Chesapeake Bay renovation so extraordinary is how seamlessly the old and new have been woven together. Purple Cherry Architects tripled the square footage of a late 19th-century brick home without ever losing sight of its historic soul, a remarkable achievement that required exceptional skill and sensitivity. The chinoiserie wallpapered foyer with its diamond marble floors, the butler’s pantry with its reclaimed wood cabinetry and hammered copper farmhouse sink, and the powder room with its original exposed brick wall all honor the home’s past. We love every detail of this spacious yet warm family home.
