Nestled on Oakton Terrace in Marietta, Georgia, this stunning modern English country house is a breathtaking blend of classic architecture and contemporary living. Designed by Linda MacArthur Architect in collaboration with Ladisic Fine Homes and Brian Watford Interiors, the house draws inspiration from the U-shaped plan of a historic James Means residence, wrapping elegantly around a sun-drenched pool terrace.
The exterior pairs white painted brick with cedar-framed steel windows, arched entries, and decorative oval windows, creating a bold yet refined interpretation of the English country vernacular that feels at once timeless and completely current.

Inside, the interiors are as vibrant as they are sophisticated. A sunlit stairwell, adorned with a cascading chandelier of bubble-like glass spheres, complements the home’s playful yet sophisticated color palette. The kitchen strikes a perfect balance between tradition and modernity, with pale blue perimeter cabinetry paired with a teal island and a high-gloss lacquered bar that feels like a jewel box.

Throughout the house, a bold use of color, including peacock velvet dining chairs, a navy family room, and a dramatic teal butler’s pantry with a rolling library ladder, is grounded by warm brass accents, custom millwork, and an open-plan layout designed for modern family living.

Foyer/Entry

Above: The light-filled entry sets an immediate tone of understated glamour, anchored by Mr. Brown London’s Rabanne chandelier suspended above a brass and quartz table by Noir Furniture. Acrylic and brass stools upholstered in Holland and Sherry hair-on-hide from Interlude Home flank the entry, while a rug from Moattar grounds the space with warmth and texture. Together, the pieces establish the house’s signature blend of classic elegance and bold contemporary style, making an inviting entrance.
Formal Living Room With Wallpaper

Above: The formal living room is wrapped in a Phillip Jeffries wallcovering, with curved walls that add both visual interest and a sense of calm. Velvet Bjork Studio sofas are arranged around a faux bois drum table by Ironies, while a Lumiere chandelier by Jean de Merry and Apparatus Studio sconces illuminate the space with warm, layered light. The result is a room that feels as curated as it does comfortable.

A Floating Staircase With Hand-Blown Glass Chandelier

Above: Inspired by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the floating staircase is partly enclosed by cedar-framed window walls that flood both levels of the house with natural light. A brass and hand-blown glass Coup D’Etat chandelier from R Hughes cascades through the stairwell, adding a touch of whimsy to an already architecturally stunning space.
A Bold Dining Room With Teal Velvet Chairs and Gold Leaf Chandelier

Above: A gold-leaf Currey and Company Ringmaster chandelier hangs above a Hickory Chair dining table from Bungalow Classic, while vintage Italian chairs upholstered in Fishman’s Fabrics teal velvet add a rich jewel-toned pop of color. A Tibetan wool and silk rug from Moattar completes the space.

A High-Gloss Teal Bar That Feels Like a Luxury Train Car

Above: The architect designed the bar walls to curve seamlessly into the ceiling, evoking the feeling of a club car on a luxury train. Designer Brian Watford reinforced the drama with glossy green lacquer, adding a sense of depth not found anywhere else in the house. Kelly Wearstler’s Cubist pendant from Circa Lighting and Arteriors Watson sconces complete this show-stopping space.

An Elegant Teal Kitchen Island With a Waterfall Marble Countertop

Reproduction Norman Cherner walnut counter stools from Design Within Reach add a mid-century modern touch, while the custom vent hood by Francois and Co anchors the space with understated elegance.
